"Nice Club in the City center of Barcelona , Friendly team and great workout classes ! I joined recently the Dance and workout classes with the instructor Nykos on Tuesday at 15h15 and I really recommend it 👌 was really Great and professional 😍 see you at the next class !"
"It is a very good gym, it has very professional and pleasant trainers, everything counts. Very good atmosphere, friendly and respectful,I have been going for many years... I am very comfortable"
"This is a review for the gym Holmes Place Balmes. My husband and I were in Barcelona for the month of February. We joined the gym via email working with Dani prior to our arrival. If you have an interest or a question, reach out to Dani at Holmes Place Balmes. He is the customer facing membership consultant and is 100% professional and responsive and will work with you based on your requirements. We completed our paperwork before getting to Barcelona so that upon arrival all we had to do was go the gym, get our entry cards, and start using the gym. Everything worked so well. We read many of the posted reviews and because we were just there and spent a month using the gym, I want to let people know our experience. The gym is excellent! It is very spacious, very clean and has so many class offerings for anything you are interested in. The pool classes were great as were the studio spin classes, the studio Body Pump classes, the quiet studio Yoga and mat Pilates classes. There are many others that I couldn't fit into my schedule. The treadmill, free weights and TechnoGym equipment is in excellent working condition. The salt pool has three good size lanes for free swim (no chlorine smell!). When the pool is being used for class, there is still one lane open for free swim. The pool classes are very good !! There is a very nice cafeteria area where you can enjoy a coffee and a bite to eat as well as use the internet at the tables or in the comfy lounge area. I highly recommend this gym for your use when you are in Barcelona. The location is phenomenal. The staff is so friendly and will take care of whatever you need. From here, you can walk to all of the downtown areas of Barcelona."
"Scam, and the 300eu fee is probably a desperate attempt to keep the club afloat, as the website says there are 0 registered members currently. The staff is very low profile and untrained, despite the franchise is supposed to be high end (Swiss one is, trained staff, they wear suits there, and they know how to talk, behave etc.) Here the reception guy said he knows the registration fee on the site is 59eu but they ask for 300eu anyways, when i asked why they don’t update the site he answered with ‘you have to x and y’. I don’t ‘have to’ do anything, so I decided to go for a better gym with better staff. This probably reflects the more general issue of lack of professionals in Barcelona. Honestly i give it a few more months tops until it goes bankrupt, since already Holmes withdrew their franchise and the club got taken by lower end We/On here no professional person will pay 300eu and 100eu for uneducated people to avoid working and probably the people here can at best function in the cheap VivaGym chains."
"I'm sorry but 300 eur registration fees? How long are you going to do registration? How many people do you need to do registration. The good thing about this place is that it's way more cleaner compared with other Barcelona gym's and not so crowded"
"300,00€ registration fee for new members for this rundown gym is insane!!! Busy like Viva Gym or McFit, but 300% more expensive.Busy, busy, busy. Not worth the high price. Since We/On took over from Holmes Place this place is more overcrowded than a Viva Gym for a monthly cost (100€) that is similar to Soho House. Also We/On put the same pricing as Metropolitan ( and funny enough it seems they created a cartel between Metropolitan and We/On (founded by the same people). Also it’s super humid everywhere and dangerous mold everywhere. The machines are old and run down. There is few weights, few machines (one of each max). The spa is very basic and often sauna doesn’t work. Mold is speeding in the spa area and changing rooms. The only plus the staff at reception and some of the personal trainers that are friendly and helpful."
"Old, neglected gym. Upon entering you will be overwhelmed by the terrible smell of chlorine and the 90% humidity due to the fact that next to the fitness equipment, there’s an indoor pool. The machines are dirty , old and partially broken. It is a gym that lost its glory long long time ago. I visited it once and won’t ever go there. It is basically a pool with a gym next to it. The gym is so hot stinky and humid due to the pool being next to it, that it feels like you work out in a wet sauna."
"An expensive fitness club with outdated equipment and a lack of natural light. The club needs a renovation and equipment update. Good location and friendly staff, however, the current pricing cannot be justified."
"Vanessa and Lydia gave me an amazing experience with the gym. They took their time and gave me a tour of the gym. They were extremely polite and I consistently came back to the gym everyday of my holiday here in Spain."
"Gym is decent but some staff are rude. Especially the girl with the curly hair at reception, she talks rudely and she acts like she owns the place"
"I am shocked with the inefficiency of the staff in both Barcelona clubs, I registered myself at the Uriquinoa unit and 2 days later after visiting Balmes, I decided to change units, so I paid the extra €10, however, my card has never been activated for Balmes unit, and everyday I had to explain myself to the staff so they would allow me to use the facilities (such a pain in the ass to over explain things everyday, especially when you are in a rush).Even talking to the staff everyday, they never solved the issue and told me to wait. This week I came to Madrid, and decided to try to use one of the clubs here, and for my surprise, they immediately made the necessary changes on my membership allowing me to use the Balmes unit. It’s ridiculous that I had to come to Madrid to fix the issue! 0/10!"
"I've been going to this gym for the last 2 years and it's just the best. The facilities are top notch and all the staff are really kind and welcoming. My personal trainer Giannina has the most infectious positive energy and training with her is one of the highlights of my day. She never fails to come up with creative, challenging, and seriously fun workouts (and the results speak for themselves)! Love love Holmes Place and would recommend to everyone."
"I really love my gym—the facilities are great, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. …"
"Great gym, no fuss and worth the price. I do personal training with Gia, she’s awesome :). She has helped me get into the best shape of my life and she has drastically improved my strength training. The facility is large with two floors, and I like how they separate the machines/weight lifting from the aerobics area downstairs. I highly recommend joining."
"many exercise machines are broken, saunas are constantly not working, there is a lot of dirt in the showers. It’s stuffy and the air conditioners look like bulky devices, blocking the passages. They want 100 euros a month for this horror! I've been a member of this sports club for over five years, but I've had enough"
"This gym is nice but expensive and not worth the price (100 euros to join + 100 euros per month). I ended up joining another gym in barceloneta which has better, more advanced machines, a bigger gym, a MUCH bigger spa and pool area *and* it's cheaper (plus a lower registration fee)."
"Scammers. Do not go at all. They will charge you a registration fee for the first month and then require you to pay the same registration fee again to renew the second month. They requested I pay another 50euro registration because I didn’t renew on the exact date that my first month ended. I wasn’t informed of this policy and I wasn’t even asked to pay until I told them I wanted to renew.Avoid at all costs.Besides being scammers. The gym is overrated for the cost. Much better gyms in the area that are responsibly priced. Plus their service is horrible. After signing up I wasn’t even given a tour of the gym. Had to walk around lost and figure things out on my own. Also, the gym is over booked so you’ll usually have to wait to even use most of the equipment. The only positive is it has a sauna. (The wet sauna was broken for 2 weeks)"
"I almost bought 3 months pass and I happy I didn’t. Sales person wasn’t nice, always in rush, barely explained anything and during our conversation she was non stop distracted by interaction with other clients. Thanks a lot for all people who wrote reviews here. I had my doubts because from guest tour it looked nice. (Girl who did the tour was very friendly). I’m happy I joined another fitness club!"
"Overall, I’d say 4 stars rating is optimal. Nice pool, sauna and towel service is included, however actual gym is way too limited. Small range of equipment requires to be very creative."
"The changing rooms lack proper ventilation, making them uncomfortably humid. The gym has been without ventilation for over three months, and the sauna remained non-functional throughout the summer. The class-rooms have slippery floors, hindering correct exercise execution. The showers are difficult to control, providing only cold water.Despite reaching out to the manager and the complaint team, they offered no help or understanding. While they promote “two months free”, it seems they cut costs by neglecting AC, sauna, and hot water issues. It's hard to believe this gym qualifies as "premium." I definitely not recommend to pay 90euro/m for this gym.A notable positive aspect is the amiable and friendly staff! It appears that the issues lie within the realm of management…"
"Very gay friendly. Nothing else.I am straight and didn't like this place."
"Scammers unfortunately. If you are under 29 years old you should only pay 79 euros per month, which I had to figure by my own 1 day later after that I signed up for 100 euros per month. Now this month I am not able to access the other gyms …"
"I have enjoyed going to the Holmes Place gym on Balmes whenever I am in Barcelona. They have a lot of classes that I like with several options during the day, so it works with my schedule. The staff has been very helpful, and I especially appreciate the help I have received from Montse, the club manager. They also have a pool (not very big) but it's all in one place so easy to do a variety of activities. The cafe and work space are an added bonus. Thank you."
"It's pretty important for me to write this review after being subscribed to this club for more than 4 years. It's a huge shame to see the deterioration of the place, both in terms of the staff - with constant changes and many good employees being fired for no reason - and the facility itself, which is quite outdated and poorly equipped. After being a member of this club for 4 years, it's disappointing to witness the decline in both staff quality and the condition of the club's facilities. The gym equipment is outdated compared to cheaper gyms with better technology. What's even more concerning is how the director seems more focused on micromanaging employees than maintaining the gym's reputation as a Holmes Place. This is by far the worst Holmes Place experience I've had. What a shame!"
"The staff is friendly and helpful, but some improvements are needed. Equipment variety is limited, especially in the free weight area. Some machines are old and need updating. The broken air conditioning since summer and showers' odor need attention. Membership fees are high, and the gym gets crowded quickly, especially during peak hours. Adjustments could enhance the overall experience."
"The Easter opening hours are incredibly annoying, 10-1500, although it’s really 14:30 as the gym floor closes then. The staff are polite, helpful and kind but for 150 euros, the equipment is old, there’s just one squat race and the layout …"
"Honestly the best gym in Barcelona. Worth the price"
"I would recommend Holmes Place Balmes to anyone in Barcelona looking for a high quality, friendly gym home. The facilities are spacious and practical. It’s a premium feel without being pretentious: everyone here comes to work out and improve themselves, not to be seen or to pose. Unlike other gyms I have used, facilities are never crowded. The equipment provides a perfect balance for those who want to challenge their bodies using technology, and those who want to use their own body as a machine. If I could take off half a point, it would be because I wish the cafe was back and that the air conditioning was stronger.I would like to mention VICTOR GOMEZ in particular for being a standout personal trainer and the reason I came to love the gym again after more than a year without guided training. Victor’s expertise, encouragement, and sense of humour have helped me regain my strength, fitness, and form after a long time off. I am so grateful to him for all of his time, support, and skill. You’re the best, Victaaaaahhh! Finally, thanks to Dani, Augustina, and others at the Holmes Place Balmes team who always make me feel like a friend, and not a customer. See you guys tomorrow!"
"Great Club 👍🏻 in the City center of Barcelona. I have tried the Dance Classes on Tuesday 15h15 with the instructor Nykos ! Really professional and lot of fun 😁 i recommend 100% see next week !"
"Strongly advise you NOT to go to this gym. Their contracts are tricky. I purchased 3 months package and later found out that they have charged me for the 4th month. When I reached out to client service asking for a refund, they told me they can’t do anything. Moreover, they will charge me for the 5th month because if I wanted to end the contract I needed to notify them 1 month before! Ridiculous. To remind you: I purchased THREE months package.Generally it is not a great gym, definitely not premium and doesn’t worth c.95 eur. The equipment is old and rusty. Some machines are always busy, it’s impossible to work out.My “favorite” thing about this gym is lack of air conditioning. During the hottest month it wasn’t functioning at all. Now it works, but still poorly, eg in a group class room the temperature is 26 C, it’s very humid and smells terrible. The staff is nice and attentive tho."
"Randomly got mean mugged by the short Asian receptionist. She went out of her way to pull an extra mean face to me because I asked her for my entry card as I would be heading out running to return again and my card was used to rent a lock. And I didn’t want to keep bothering the staff to let me in. A simple no would have sufficed. Instead she went out of her way to push her face to me in a threatening way and scowl at me well after the convo happened while I was on my phone in the waiting area. Bizarre experience. She clearly wasn’t forward thinking enough to consider that I’d leave a review. Maybe she doesn’t care about her job at all. Or maybe she was just having a bad day . I am leaving this review so maybe no one else has to experience whatever that was."
"I just came here to say what everyone else already said. This place isnt worth the money. And it’s a lot of money. …"
"I took a spinning class with Giannia and it was the best spinning class I have ever taken! Giannia is a great teacher with powerful energy. I enjoyed working hard while also having a great time with fun music and a few laughs. Thank you Giannia!!!"
"Clean Clean Clean. I truly appreciate that this gym is spotless. Machines work. Smells Clean. Pool is sparkling. Always soap in dispensers. Perfecto!"
"I was a member for three weeks in May during my studies in Barcelona and then I cancelled my subscription because I went back to my home country. I have signed all the papers in the club and plus I have sent an email beforehand telling that I am going to cancel the subscription. However, they still charged me for THREE months: June, July, August; though, of course, I have all the proof that I cancelled my subscription in due course with them. This is absolutely unacceptable."
"What's happening Holmes Place Balmes? Wow. The air conditioning has been out for many weeks and although there is a lot of construction going on, nothing ever seems to get finished. A water pipe burst a several months ago and flooded the men's locker room and severely damaged many of the wood veneered panels, ceiling and walls...nothing has been fixed. The gym is filthy and I've encountered cockroaches on three separate occasions. Most of the staff have left and although the new hires are trying their best, Holmes Place Balmes is not worth the monthly fee they are charging. When this many things go wrong at the same time management should offer some discounted rates and/or free water, food etc to retain customers until the facilities are restored to their original state. Get your act together!"
"Sales team will make you a discount offer that has a permanence policy trick in the contract and they will assure you if you move to another city/country you have no extra fees to cancel and then you’ll find yourself paying 600€ to actually break bonds with the institution because you have not enough documentation to prove you’re actually moving. They even asked me the residence proof of the new destination while I was still in Barcelona. Best business plan ever to get customers like me with an IQ of an amoeba."
